Associate Professor in Radar Meteorology

The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and the Institute for Climate & Atmospheric Sciences (ICAS) are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Radar Meteorology. NCAS has recently acquired a mobile Doppler dual-polarisation X-band radar for research in clouds and precipitation.

We welcome applications from high calibre candidates who have strong research backgrounds in radar meteorology, preferably with expertise in Doppler dual-polarisation radar and the analysis of data from such systems. You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research profile of the NCAS Weather Directorate and ICAS and to their management and development. In particular you will be expected to make full use of the new X-band radar and to provide strategic leadership in the area of radar research. You will also contribute to teaching and research student supervision in ICAS. You will work closely with the NCAS Facility for Ground-based Atmospheric Measurement (FGAM) Radar Instrument Scientist, Dr Lindsay Bennett, and other NCAS Weather and ICAS scientists involved with weather radar.

The post is a joint appointment of NCAS (60%) and the School of Earth and Environment (40%), University of Leeds.

You should have strong academic foundations and a doctoral degree in the field of radar meteorology or similar field. You will be expected to have a strong publication record, show evidence of research income generation, if appropriate, together with teaching experience or potential, and show strong vision for the future.
