M-CostAdapt: PhD a GAMA

Dear colleagues,

We are looking for good candidates who wish to do the doctoral thesis with my GAMA team of the University of Barcelona, within the PhD program of Physics of the University of Barcelona. The thesis will be on adaptation to the impact of climate change on coastal hazards (mainly from the hydrometeorological and sociological point of view) and will be developed within the framework of the M-CostAdapt project that we have with the Technical University of Catalonia (https://mcostadapt.upc.edu/es/proyecto-m-costadapt). This is a national project that has obtained an associated grant. The call for the grand has opened recently and the deadline to submit candidacies is October 29 at 3:00 p.m. (CET). La tesis será sobre adaptación al impacto del cambio climático sobre los riesgos costeros (principalmente desde una aproximación hidrometeorológica y sociológica) y se desarrollará en el marco del proyecto M-CostAdapt que llevamos a cabo en colaboración con la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (https://mcostadapt.upc.edu/es/proyecto-m-costadapt). Position vacancy Annoucement (1year contract) CNRM-GAM

The National Centre for Meteorological Research, CNRM-GAME (METEO-FRANCE & CNRS), UMR3589, is offering a position to an engineer specialized in the development of software engineering applied to hydrology.

Background :

This position is related to the MobiCLIMEx project dealing with the question of human exposure to flash floods associated to storms in the Mediterranean area. Exposure is studied at two different spatial and temporal scales: i) the daily exposure during an event which depends on the way people adapt their usual activities to the flood and in particular their mobility and ii) the residential exposure at decadal and regional scales resulting from social, political, demographical, economical and environmental forcing.

It is a 4-year project (2013-2016) funded by the Societal and Environmental changes program (Soc&Env) of the French National Research Agency (ANR).

MobiCLIMEx is divided into four main tasks. TASK1 deals with the coordination and dissimination of the results. TASK2 aims at evaluating the dynamic exposure and adaptive capacity of the actual daily mobility of a part of the Gard population specifically concerned by flash flooding risk: the professionals. On of the objective is to characterize at the regional scale flash flood hazards (severity, timing) along the river network  all over the Gard region. This will be assessed for selected past events and new events that will take place during the MobiClimEx project framework. TASK3 aims at understanding the sustainability of residential choices to hydrometeorological risks. TASK4 aims at integrating the knowledge gained through the study of the interaction of social and natural dynamics at the two aforementioned space-time scales. The present proposal is part of TASK2. Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at Météo France

POLARIMETRIC QUANTITATIVE PRECIPITATION ESTIMATION AT S, C AND X-BAND

Météo France (the French National Weather Service) is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work 24 months on polarimetric quantitative precipitation estimation at X, C and S band. This project is the continuation of Météo France long-lasting investment on operational radar polarimetry, which started in 2004. Since 2004 a significant amount of work has been carried out on: data quality assessment and monitoring, artefact removal, attenuation correction, bright band identification, hydrometeor classification, impact of ground-clutter and quantitative precipitation estimation.
