The Italian National Research Council – Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (CNR-ISAC) is looking for a doctor in Physics, Geophysics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Climate Dynamics, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, or an equivalent subject to cover a Post-Doc position in their branch in Bolonia.

“The CNR-ISAC aims at an integrated scientific understanding of the atmosphere, the ocean and their processes, by means of a multidisciplinary approach which combines scientific and technological skills in meteorology, climate, atmospheric dynamics and composition, Earth observations; it develops basic research, theoretical, experimental and numerical, and modeling work together with impact evaluation.
ISAC is the largest CNR Institute on atmospheric sciences, structured in 7 Units over the country, 7 permanent observatories, including 3 Global Stations of the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) program of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and 2 atmospheric research Supersites.
ISAC is recognised internationally through its collaboration with a large number of European laboratories, and research centers worldwide.”

This position is related to the DISTRIBUTED RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE FOR HYDRO-METEOROLOGY (DRIHM) project ( funded by the European commission. DRIHM intends to develop a prototype e-Science environment to facilitate the collaboration between meteorologists, hydrologists, and Earth science experts and provide end-to-end hydro-meteorological research (HMR) services (models, datasets, and post-processing tools) at the European level, with the ability to expand to global scale. The objectives of DRIHM are to lead the definition of a common long-term strategy, to foster the development of new HMR models and observational archives for the study of severe hydro- meteorological events, to promote the execution and analysis of high-end simulations, and to support the dissemination of predictive models as decision analysis tools.

of software engineering applied to meteorology.

Context: The HyMeX programme seeks to improve our understanding and modelling of the water cycle in the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on the predictability and the evolution of intense events ( In the frame of HyMeX, a strong effort will be devoted to observation and modelling, especially during Special Observation Periods (SOPs). For the western Mediterranean domain, these SOPs will be held during the Autumn 2012 and Spring 2013. A high-resolution atmospheric (2.5 km) AROME_WMED forecast model atmospheric (2.5 km), a special version of AROME for HyMeX, will be implemented for these two SOPs.
